Understanding the Missouri AfterSchool Network Future-Ready Credential

Collage of the three credential certificates

A Structured Pathway for Students to Build Readiness, Momentum, and Opportunity

The Missouri AfterSchool Network Future-Ready Credential recognizes students who take meaningful steps toward becoming more prepared for life after high school.

Through this credential, students build real-world readiness by engaging in 220 Youth Leadership experiences, participating in leadership summits, strengthening financial capability, and, at the highest level, demonstrating growth through a validated portfolio and reflection process.

This credential is designed to bring more structure, clarity, and momentum to afterschool participation by helping students and programs understand what is available, what it means to complete it, and how those experiences can translate into future opportunity.

Initiate credential certificate

Initiate (Level 1)

The first step in the Missouri Future-Ready Credential

The Initiate level recognizes students who begin their Future-Ready journey by actively participating in both learning and experience.

Students earn this level by:

This first level is designed to help students move from exposure to engagement. It introduces them to future-focused learning while also giving them access to an in-person experience that expands their perspective, builds motivation, and connects afterschool participation to bigger postsecondary and career possibilities.

Through this level, students begin to see themselves as capable of planning ahead, building skills, and taking action toward their future.

Earn & Invest credential certificate

Earn & Invest (Level 2)

Connecting financial education to real opportunity

The Earn and Invest level recognizes students who take the next step by building financial capability and linking learning to a real asset-building opportunity.

Students earn this level by:

This level is designed to move beyond awareness and into action. Students do not just learn about money in theory. They begin to understand how money can be used as a tool to support the life they want to build.

By pairing financial education with a real savings step, this level helps students and families connect afterschool learning to future planning in a concrete way. It gives students an early win, reinforces long-term thinking, and creates a stronger bridge to postsecondary opportunity.

Distinguish credential certificate

Distinguish (Level 3)

Demonstrated commitment across the full Future-Ready pathway

The Distinguish level recognizes students who complete the full credential pathway and demonstrate deeper ownership of their growth.

Students earn this level by:

This highest level is designed to validate not only completion, but synthesis. Students are expected to connect what they have learned across multiple experiences, reflect on how those experiences shaped them, and present evidence of their readiness in a more meaningful way.

The Distinguish level signals that a student has gone beyond participation. It shows sustained effort, follow-through, and the ability to turn a series of afterschool experiences into a clear story about who they are becoming and where they want to go next.

Credential Verification

The Missouri AfterSchool Network Future-Ready Credential signifies that a student has completed structured milestones within the MASN–220 pathway and demonstrated meaningful participation in future-ready learning experiences.

Across the three levels, students build readiness through course completion, summit participation, financial capability development, and, at the highest level, portfolio-based reflection and validation.

This credential is intended to help students, families, and program leaders recognize tangible progress and create stronger connections between afterschool experiences and long-term success.
